In this data study, we examined the number of semaglutide clinics in each U.S. city and state. This study was conducted over a period of four months, from March to June 2024, involving approximately 120 hours of research and five SGS researchers.
The data below are updated continously as we revise our semaglutide and tirzepatide clinic database, currently the largest on the Internet. The key findings section is updated monthly.
Here are some key findings from this data study:
Semaglutide, more commonly known by brand names including Wegovy and Ozempic, is a medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and for chronic weight management. This versatile medication has shown significant efficacy in improving glycemic control and facilitating weight loss.[17]
It works by mimicking the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 to enhance insulin secretion, suppress glucagon release, slow gastric emptying, and reduce appetite. Semaglutide is marketed under several brand names:
Jens Juul Holst and Joel Habener began research on the GLP-1 hormone, initially in relation to duodenal ulcer disease.
Michael Nauck manages to infuse GLP-1 into people with type 2 diabetes, stimulating insulin while inhibiting glucagon and bringing blood glucose to normal levels. However, patients had significant side effects
Semaglutide is created by Novo Nordisk, a global healthcare company headquartered in Denmark that specializes in diabetes care.
Pivotal clinical trials demonstrate the efficacy of semaglutide for type 2 diabetes.
Novo Nordisk submits a New Drug Application (NDA) for semaglutide to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The FDA approves Ozempic (semaglutide) for type 2 diabetes.
The FDA approves Rybelsus, the oral form of semaglutide, for type 2 diabetes.
The FDA approves Wegovy (semaglutide) for chronic weight management.
Novo Nordisk files patents related to semaglutide.
The FDA approves Tirzepatide for weight loss.
Oprah dedicates an entire episode to semaglutide, fueling its popularity.
The artest Kendric Lamar drops "Euphoria", a six-minute diss track in which he publicly accuses Drake of using Ozempic for weight loss.
South Park releases a special 45-minute episode called "South Park: The End of Obesity", highlighting Ozempic's popularity to comedic effect.
These charts indicate overall interest in semaglutide as a factor of U.S. Google Web Search data. A score of 100 represents peak popularity for the term, while a score of 0 represents the lowest interest for the term.

The Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) between state obesity rate and the number of semaglutide clinics per capita is -0.464.[12][13][16] This suggests a moderate negative correlation between a state's obesity rate and the number of semaglutide clinics per capita in the state.
In other words, states with a higher rate of obesity actually have a lower number of clinics per capita.
This could be due to a higher rate of obesity in states that have a lower GDP per capita. Further research will be performed in an upcoming SGS pricing study. Get notified when it's published.
